The Parish

Shiplake is a parish of approximately 700 homes located in South Oxfordshire, two miles south of Henley on Thames. It extends from the banks of the river Thames across the A4155 up to its boundaries with Binfield Heath Parish and Harpsden Parish.

The oldest part of the parish is the area known as the village of Shiplake Cross close to the 800 year old parish church of St Peter & Paul, Shiplake College, the local primary school and the Plowden Arms pub. The majority of homes are however located at the other end of the parish close to the railway station, corner shop, butcher, garage and Baskerville Arms pub which is known as the village of Lower Shiplake.

More about the parish is also available on the web site:  http://www.shiplake.net/

Lashbrook Pond Project - Update

We have now received the results of the ecological survey of the site which has confirmed that the site is well worth conserving as a nature reserve because it contains no less than 150 different species.  We have planted all the hedgerow and coppiced the trees along the brook as planned, and have now formed working parties to keep the planted areas clear.  If you would like your name added to our list of Lashbrook Project volunteers please contact Geoff Thomas on: geoffdthomasuk@yahoo.co.uk.

Meanwhile please watch this website and the Lashbrook site itself for further information.

Kind regards, Geoff Thomas.

Parking in Lower Shiplake - Proposed Experimental Order

The experimental parking plan (which can be seen by clicking the following link. Proposed Experimental Parking Plan )  is now in place.  Unlike a permanent order, an experimental order can only stay in force for a maximum of 18 months while it's impact is monitored and assessed (and changes made if necessary), before the Council decides whether or not to continue it on a permanent basis. It is not possible to lodge a formal objection to an experimental traffic regulation order until it is in force. Once it is in force, objections may be made to the order being made permanent and these must be made within six months of the day that the experimental order comes into force.

Shiplake Annual Parish Meeting 23rd May

The annual Parish Meeting will be held at the Memorial Hall on Thursday 23rd May starting at 7.30pm.

Come and listen to the headline results of the first major survey of residents conducted since 1999 in the villages of Shiplake Cross and Lower Shiplake. The response to the survey has been fantastic and a big thanks should go to all those involved in its production, distribution and collection. The meeting should provide a great opportunity to get a snapshot of what residents think and it will help shape what we do for the future to protect and enhance the quality of life in our villages.

Please come along to support Shiplake.

Tudor Taylor (Chairman Shiplake Parish Council)
