New Police Community Support Officer
We are pleased to welcome Janice Smith the new PCSO. She is based in the Sonning Common Police Office and will be covering
Shiplake, Sonning Common, Peppard, Kidmore End, Binfield Heath, Eye & Dunsden and Mapledurham. Whenever, possible she intends to patrol either on foot or bicycle, although during the winter months you may see her in the PCSO car. Please feel free to stop her any time and talk, she is looking forward to meeting as many residents as she can.
Neighbourhood Watch is the largest voluntary organisation in the UK. It is run by volunteers in the community and is the best known and most effective example of the police and community working in partnership to reduce crime, build safer communities and improve quality of life. Neighbourhood Watch is one of the biggest and most successful crime prevention initiatives ever undertaken.

A two month operation has recently been launched by Thames Valley Police in the South Oxfordshire area giving special priority to burglary and vehicle crime. As part of this initiative, Neighbourhood Watch is encouraging all residents to review the security of their homes, including door locks, window locks, garage and shed doors, as well as keeping cars locked and their keys out of easy reach. Additionally, please keep an extra look out for any elderly or vulnerable residents who may be targets for distraction burglars or bogus callers. Shiplake is still looking for a new volunteer Neighbourhood Watch Area Co-ordinator.
As an Area Co-ordinator you will be responsible for a number of local Neighbourhood Watch schemes and act as a contact point for other scheme co-ordinators, the police and other agencies. You will be a spokesperson and organiser for the village and produce briefings for inclusion in the Village Newsletter three times a year.
