Shiplake College
Shiplake College is an independent day and boarding school for the 13-
Shiplake Church of England Primary School
There has been a primary school in Shiplake since 1847, although it has evolved a
great deal over the subsequent 160 years.
Originally built through a trust deed
for the children and poor of the parish on land donated by the Baskerville family,
it continues to serve the local village community and enjoys close ties with the
Church . The current building was opened in 1963 and has been extended a number of
times. In 2005 the internal space was improved and made more effective by removing
some internal walls, creating a new corridor and kitchen and converting the old kitchen
into a much needed seventh teaching area. The school caters for the 4+ to 11 age
group. The school has a total staff of 20.
With the help of parents, governors, staff and pupils the outside areas of the school
grounds have been transformed.
A new entrance way was made from Memorial Avenue,
new fencing and gates secured the site boundaries and a huge ‘Friend Ship’ designed
by a pupil was built in the playground. The improvements also included a quiet area
for sitting, reflecting and reading, new flower beds, a farm area and barn and a
shelter. The ‘Friend Ship’ was officially launched on 24th November 2006 by those
most closely involved in the re-
With no caretaker, Groundforce days (where parents, governors, staff and pupils all work together) are an essential means of looking after the school environment. The school is very fortunate to have excellent support in events like this and from an active PTFA who arrange fund raising social events. The school website is located at: www.shiplakeprimary.org.uk
