Worried about flooding, air pollution, loss of biodiversity?

Greener Henley has made a short video asking Henley residents and John Howell MP to support the CEE (climate and ecological emergency) Bill.  We are making good progress locally, with our Council having declared a climate emergency in Feb 2020.  But there is only so much we can do on a local level - we must make our voices heard to our elected representative in Parliament to effect the necessary change on a national level.

Your voice matters: you can make a difference.  Please watch our video, then sign and share the petition:

I've signed the petition & shared it on my social media feeds. Climate warming is the biggest global issue we face (bigger than Covid) & I support every constructive initiative that helps governments, businesses & individuals to reverse the direction of travel. Change is never easy or comfortable. The one thing I have learned is that it's not leaders who create behaviour change it is the involvement of first followers who turn an idea into a movement- so I'm in as a willing first follower.

Hopefully Shiplake residents will see that this is an important issue that affects us all, our children, our grandchildren. Our right to make our voice heard to our local MP about important issues in our community is the bedrock that our democratic system is built upon. Just as the local community has spoken up about the Taylor Wimpey flooding issue, we are now rallying around the climate / nature emergency. The Covid crisis has shown us we need to follow the science, and pull together now.

On the contrary Mr Tassell, your level in each of your posts has been sarcasm and personal insult. I am sure that Shiplake residents have had enough of this exchange, so I will not be sending out any more responses to your posts. This is a good illustration of why political argument is not part of a local Village Forum.

The CEE Bill is about mainstream policy that affects every household: not political propaganda as Mick says. Oxfordshire County Council recently passed a motion to support the CEE Bill with 51 councillors voting for, five voting against: two abstentions. The Council has pledged to take into account the aims and goals of the CEE Bill when setting its own strategies, policies, and targets. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrqyrM2X_KA&feature=youtu.be two mins info about the Bill.

Anyone reading your posts, Mr Tassell, would be hard pressed to find any well reasoned arguments.

What a ridiculous straw man statement from Steve Tassell. All I am saying is that this formum is for local Shiplake issues (the clue is in the name "Shiplake Villages"), not as a platform for national political propaganda.

Steve Tassell must know full well that the issue here is not about free speech, but about using our village forum, dedicated to local issues in Shiplake, as a platform for free unsolicited advertising and political propaganda, foisted on every household in the village. Ironically, that this is very political, is confirmed by Kate Aldridge’s second post.

Thanks to Mick Reid for comments. To correct them, the Bill: 1. Is private members bill, presented by 12 MPs (incl. Caroline Lucas) - cross party support from 7 political parties now 96 MPs 2. Brings in shipping, aviation, emissions embodied as carbon in imported products, now excluded. 3. Parliament retains sovereignty. Again, Kate Oldridge is abusing our forum for local Shiplake issues, to promote her politics. What you are not told is that the CEE Bill is run by the only Green MP, Caroline Lucas, as a trap to take decision making from our elected MPs, and give it to Green activists. Green activists would run our country’s energy policy and much else. E.g., they could ban flying and cars. If the Government disagrees, they would be taken to court. We do not want or need an unaccountable parallel Parliament.
