Cameras on New Road

Does anyone know who is responsible for the installation of cameras along New Road, starting at the street light post on the corner of Mill Road, and why?

There has been a surveyor on New Road measuring the non tarmac section of the road and the two fields adjoining. He said he didn’t know specifically what it was for but it normally meant new housing.

I have now heard back from OCC officers. They have established that the speed tubes on Crowsley Road and the cameras at the other three sites were all part of the same survey by a private company. The company stated that the purpose of the survey was: "To record speeds and directional flows of traffic." They did not identify the ultimate beneficiary of the report, although this is almost certain to be linked to a planning application. Email me if you want the company's name and telephone number.

The cameras have now gone, as of yesterday morning

The box attached to the traffic flow counting wires across Crowsley Road has what appears to be the name of the surveying company on it (as opposed to the manufacturer). I've forgotten it now, sorry! Perhaps a phone call to this company, if no light can be thrown on who has ordered this survey, will yield an answer?

Probably also related to the wires across Crowsley road which have recently appeared which I presume are there to monitor the traffic flow.

Apparently there are also cameras installed on the gates of the newly purchased meadow in New Road the cameras facing into the lane. Perhaps they are connected?

We had a smashed car light recently while our car was parked on our driveway on Mill Road. The traffic has been bad recently, partly due to the nearby building work but also a lot of delivery vehicles generally and speeding cars. I saw the contractor who installed the cameras but he couldn't tell me who commissioned them. He said they'd be coming down on Friday 10th and were for monitoring traffic.

No idea but a great idea at Mill Rd junction which is so dangerous. I was nearly killed when a lorry knocked over the old concrete lamp post which almost hit me and a lorry recently almost knocked over the new metal one again. SODC won't cut the hedge any more as you turn out of New Rd towards the lock. Cars speed down from the lock, it's an accident waiting to happen. There is so much congestion there with such poor vision. Perhaps people will pick up their dog poo now too!
