Mechanical Garden Noise 2

Why was the thread on  this issue closed within a day. Do we not want debate on local issues?

Are we such a fragile Community?

Gents, My responses here were directed entirely at the first item in the thread from Gary. A dictat banning noise save for the 2 hours that might happen to suit him and his particular work pattern was wholly inappropriate. I'm assuming any noisy children in gardens are also to be banned, as are all building contractors gardeners etc

Gentlemen, I am in complete agreement with Peter Boros. ‘.....this is a matter for individual discussion between direct neighbours where circumstances require it‘. I am a little concerned when Gareth suggests that the PC might value any positive suggestions . To me it infers that they may feel ‘something must be done’. My positive suggestion would be to do no more than emphasise that these are special times, during which talking, listening and being a good neighbour is more important than ever.

Guys, I think Gareth is absolutely correct. This is a matter for individual discussion as between direct neighbours where circumstances require it. Most everyone will have different and conflicting requirements so a dictat from on high saying NO this or that across both villages is wholly inappropriate and will only lead to a posting fest on this forum that by its very nature will not be capable of resolution. I therefore would urge everyone to avoid that as it will end in angst and bitterness

Ray, Eryl, Thank you for your comments. This thread contained a valid reminder of the different circumstances our neighbours may face during this emergency and the impact others' actions may have; a suggestion that resolution should be a friendly give-or-take between neighbours; and, if the thread resulted from a specific incident, an appropriate response. There did not appear to me to be any need for debate.

We try to moderate the Forum with a very light touch and wouldn't normally seek to close or remove any threads unless they clearly breached the published conditions of use. You will not be aware, but a number of people have privately conveyed their concern and, in one case, distress to us at some of the recent posts on the forum relating to general or specific instances of good neighbourliness. You ask, Ray, "Are we such a fragile Community?" I think the answer at the moment may be "Yes". So, for hopefully only a short while, we will be moderating a bit more actively.

There is, of course, a general issue of what constitutes good neighbourliness and what we can do to promote this within the community and I expect this to be discussed at the Parish Council meeting on Monday. The PC will no doubt value any positive suggestions. Regards, Gareth
