Playgrounds in the Parish

NEW PLAYGROUND AT MEMORIAL HALL

Shiplake Parish Council (SPC) have completed a major refurbishment and upgrade to the Memorial Hall playground. The official opening is  Friday 14th October at 4pm, although you can already access it ....many children have!

There are now many more interesting and fun things to do there, for children and some for adults too! Please come and see what’s there, try it out and let us know what you think.

The Council has invested in this asset for the benefit of our community. We have used Community Infrastructure Levy monies (that we get from housebuilding projects within the parish) to do this. We would like to thank both Tarmac PLC and SODC councillors for their kind contributions to the costs. We would also like to thank the Memorial Hall and its Trustees for their support, recognising our continued collaborative working relationship.

Consultants advised the Council on various options and chose one of the 2 options illustrated below. Which one was the winner with additions? Come and find out.... Try it out!

Possible Redevelopment of Shiplake Memorial Hall Field Playground

The Parish Council is considering redeveloping the Memorial Hall field playground.  The current facilities are in need of updating and upgrading and we wanted to take a long term view as maintenance was becoming difficult. We also want to take the opportunity to try to offer a better range of equipment for a wider age group.

The Parish Council would be making a significant investment in this renewal and is seeking funding from SODC and local benefactors and we would welcome your thoughts and comments at this stage.

We have taken the advice of a playground consultant to ensure we consider the most appropriate equipment and ensure we have the best advice to create a great playground.

The objective is to remove all existing play items, fencing and surfacing, potentially extend the footprint and design a facility that offers a good number of play items for a wide age group. To complement the site and allow for maintenance, the use of engineered wood or similar is proposed. The surround fencing will be steel with 2 new self-closing gates. There is also a small budget for 3 or 4 pieces of outdoor fitness equipment to be located further along the field in a separate small adult fitness area.

We are considering two potential schemes and would love to receive any comments you may have on the type of equipment being offered if we proceed with this project.

Email us at playground@shiplakevillages.com before Monday the14th or come to the Parish Council meeting on Monday 14th March 19:45 at the Memorial Hall.
